Industry Digital Strategist, Worldwide Public Sector, Microsoft
Gerald Wang is currently an Industry Digital Strategist with Microsoft’s Worldwide Public Sector team, specializing in the Asia Pacific government market. Previously, he was the Director and Head of the Asia Pacific Public Sector programs at IDC. Gerald was also the founder of IDC’s Smart Cities awards (SCAPA), which began in 2013. Specific to Malaysia’s Smart Cities landscape, he has worked closely with agencies such as MDEC, MAMPU, MIMOS, IRDA, and the Kuching City government on various Smart Cities advisory work such as strategic road-mapping, run citizenry FGDs and workshops, among other activities. As an ex-civil servant at the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA, current-day GovTech) and IDA International, Gerald has spent over 17 years assisting public sector agencies worldwide realize their multi-year technology investment outcomes through research and consulting in policy creation, technology masterplans, and innovation initiatives. He is experienced in agile change management and innovation-based advisories and has extensive public speaking experience across several global Public Sector events. He also partners regularly with NGOs on topics such as digital government, smart cities, and public policy change initiatives.
