Chief Executive Officer, Urbanice Malaysia
Norliza Hashim is the Chief Executive of Urbanice Malaysia, a Centre of Excellence for Urban Wellbeing and Sustainability. Urbanice governs on four areas – Knowledge Platforms, Urban Innovation, SDDs Projects and International & Local Partnerships, that aim to provide urban leaders and practitioners with the knowledge and support to achieve sustainable urbanization. Norliza is a registered town planner and is the Principal and Founder of her consulting firm for the past 28 years – AJM Planning and Urban Design Group Sdn Bhd which covers a wide spectrum of the planning discipline and developing plans and blueprints that has also contributed towards Malaysia’s nation building and to more than 12 countries including Russia, China, Pakistan, India, Saudi Arabia and a UN-Habitat consultant (Urban and Housing Rehabilitation Programmes). She led a team to organise the Ninth Session of World Urban Forum for UN-Habitat and the Malaysian Government, formulate the Low Carbon Cities Assessment Framework for the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water and formulated the Malaysia SDG Cities Roadmap. She is now the Director for Malaysian Institute of Planner’s Low Carbon Cities and Sustainability Centre, a Fellow with Institute Masa and is a member of the Leadership Council for Sustainable Development Solutions Network Malaysia, where her passion lies in promoting the sustainable agenda to providing innovative solutions that contribute towards better quality of life and Malaysia's built environment. Norliza is also the Chairman for Penang Platform for Sustainable Urbanisation, a coalition of organisation from the Asia Pacific, and had served as the Secretary General of the Eastern Regional Organisation for Planning and Human Settlement (EAROPH), the Board Member for Malaysia Board of Technologist, Board of Town Planners Malaysia, President for Malaysian Institute of Planners from 2005-2011 and currently sits on several advisory panels in our local public universities.
